Week 60: See Jane Lead- #AlphaFemaleFriday
“ WEEK 60 / 133 – 133 WEEKS TO SUCCESS ”
The past 60 weeks, and these past 60 posts, I have been focusing on what it means to be a better employee or leader in someone else’s business. I haven’t really talked about the joys and challenges that come with having your own business. It’s never too early or too late to start, and I think the fear of being too young or too old can hold so many people back from making their visions reality. The reality is that the timing will never be right.
There are certain talents and passions which come to us naturally, and as we get older we may continue to hone in on those skills and make the most of them. Many of us may get lost in the daily grind and push our passions aside in the face of cruel pragmatism. I say think about what you loved to do when you a child. Ask yourself about the last time you were truly and honestly happy, and ask yourself if you can also make money from that said thing that also happens to spark joy in your life.
I admire those who can strive for decades to get to the top of the corporate ladder. If that is the path you are determined to take, then by all means, my friend, go for it. Don’t let anyone stop you. Not everyone wants to climb that corporate ladder, and my heart goes out to just as sincerely.
See Jane Run. See Jane Lead. If you’ve ever been a position where you found yourself asking, “why should I wait around hoping to get that corner office when I can just own my own business and have my corner office by default?”, then this is for you. If you have the entrepreneurial itch, know you’re not alone. The National Federation of Independent Business predicts that women will create at least half of the 9.72 million jobs expected in small business by 2018.
Everyone has at least one great idea and talent that they can share with the world. If you feel like it is an idea or talent that keeps you up at night and gives you a reason to get up in the morning, then why wait for everything to be picture perfect before you share it with someone else? Get started today, because if you don’t, you may never begin at all.
Cheers,
Kelly

About:
Each week, I take a tip from Lois P. Frankel’s book, Nice Girls Still Don’t Get the Corner Office, and explore how each of these tips affect myself and other women in similar positions on the road to becoming the women we want to be. There are far and few between who are a few steps behind me, and many more who are far advanced. I found that Lois P. Frankel’s advice applied to novice, intermediates, and experts alike. It helped me see that I was already doing right, served as a reminder to keep on doing what I was doing and how to keep that momentum going. The book also showed me areas where I could improve, and gave realistic tips to jump on board. There are a total of 133 tips, and explore one tip per week in a program I call: 133 Weeks to Success.
