Week 52: Don’t You Forget About “ME” Time – #AlphaFemaleFriday
“ WEEK 52 / 133 – 133 WEEKS TO SUCCESS ”
Don’t believe it when people talk about the work and life balance. There is no balance. There is only integration and time management. Since you’re taking time out of your busy day to read this, just as I’m taking the time out of my day to write this, you already know all of that. You’re very busy and you have SO much on your plate, which is what you constantly say to others and hear from other people. We’re all running around like chickens with our heads cut off, just trying to get every. Single. Little. Thing. DONE.
Truth be told: you know why you’re not getting everything done? It’s time management, yes, but let’s take a step back and ask ourselves what are we doing that adds value and happiness to our lives versus what we are doing just to get by. Actively practice gratitude and you will come to learn what actually, truly makes you happy versus what you’re doing just because. Add more YOU time and you’ll come to learn more about yourself and how you can get more done once you know how you operate as a fully, functioning human being instead of a machine that just does things—just because.
One of the biggest things I did to add more flexibility to my day was really limit time I spent on social media—note, does not apply if this is part of your job description. Once you can master your own time, you can really master your own life. There are thousands of time management tips out there on the internet, so quickly look up a few and start working on them today. You’d be surprised with the results you see in mere days.
It has been 52 weeks since I’ve begun the Nice Girls Still Don’t Get the Corner Office project. I’ve been writing this recurring piece blog on a weekly basis for a year now. Every time that I’ve sat down to write a post, I blocked out time for it. Going into the project, I knew I would face challenges when I just felt so overwhelmed and didn’t. Have. Any. Time. Now that I’ve been at it for a year, I realized that anything I’ve ever wanted to accomplish, whether it was learning a new instrument or writing my blog, it wasn’t that I didn’t HAVE the time available. It was because I didn’t choose to make time for it.
We all have choices, and every day we must ask ourselves what we want to accomplish and how we can get it done within a certain amount of hours. If we cannot get it done within our imagined time frame, which leads to frustration of feeling like we can’t get it done, then we really need to reevaluate and take a good, hard look at how much time tasks should take us.
One of the tasks we must add is adding more FUN! Yes, scheduling fun and relaxation for yourself is just as crucial as scheduling that meeting with your client. Don’t let someone else’s emergency become your emergency. If you want to remain sane, you must take care of yourself first and set limits.
Cheers,
Kelly

About:
Each week, I take a tip from Lois P. Frankel’s book, Nice Girls Still Don’t Get the Corner Office, and explore how each of these tips affect myself and other women in similar positions on the road to becoming the women we want to be. There are far and few between who are a few steps behind me, and many more who are far advanced. I found that Lois P. Frankel’s advice applied to novice, intermediates, and experts alike. It helped me see that I was already doing right, served as a reminder to keep on doing what I was doing and how to keep that momentum going. The book also showed me areas where I could improve, and gave realistic tips to jump on board. There are a total of 133 tips, and explore one tip per week in a program I call: 133 Weeks to Success.
Join the movement using the hashtag #133WeeksToSuccess with posts which are posted every #AlphaFemaleFriday.
