Welcome to a new segment of Alpha Female Society! First, there was #AlphaFemaleFriday with weekly posts every Friday with regards to feminist ramblings and millennial talk. Now, there will be Music Monday.

So, let’s talk about Lorde for a second. I can’t get over the fact that this girl is only sixteen. A few months ago, Lorde was getting some seriously bad rep about being a supposed racist. Let’s also take this moment to remember that Lorde isn’t a teenage American girl who grew up watching the blatant racial and socioeconomic divide that still exists in the U.S. today. She’s from New Zealand. Here’s the line from her famous ROYALS that caused that serious stir:

But everybody’s like:
Crystal
Maybach
Diamonds on your timepiece
Jet planes
Islands
Tigers on a gold leash

We don’t care, we aren’t caught up in your love affair

Many people back lashed against Lorde, saying that she was being racist against the African-American community. I have to be honest and say that the first person who came to my mind when I heard those lyrics was our beloved, all American girl: Miley Cyrus.

Controversy aside, Lorde is friggin’ beautiful—inside and out. One song from her PURE HEROINE album really sticks out to me. White Teeth Teens is one of my favorites. I’m a serious lyric nut, so I am in love with the lines:

I’ll let you in on something big
I am not a white teeth teen
I tried to join but never did
The way they are, the way they seem is something else, it’s in the blood
Their molars blinking like the lights, in the underpass where we all sit
And do nothing
And love it

Wishing you all the success, Lorde!
